Air Source Heat Pumps are becoming an increasingly popular choice for home heating, especially in areas with less severe winters. But what makes it such a viable heating alternative, and how does it work? Quite simply, Activair has a motor powered by electricity that supplies more energy than it consumes when it extracts heat from the surrounding air. In most cases yes, a ground source heat pump is usually much more complicated due to the need for wells or buried coils, together with alterations to land and property an expensive installation is usually the case. The performance of an air source heat pump is usually shown as the COP, or Coefficient of Performance. This relates to the amount of energy extracted from ambient air around us for each unit of energy used to run the pump. For example an air source heat pump operating a COP of 3.4 will provide 3.4kW of heat output for every 1kW of household electricity consumed.

Very straightforward to install by any plumber or heating engineer, this unit can be sited in your loft or attic roof space or outdoors. The heat pump comes with its own programmer for full temperature and 7 day time controlling. 
The heat pump can be connected to a gravity fed system or pressurised and can be for underfloor heating or domestic hot water. It can be used for both heating and water if you have the correct controls and diverter valve installed in your system. 
Just imagine this unit as a replacement or supplement to your boiler, it has a flow and return pipe and you just power it up and site the programmer somewhere together with the temperature probe onto your cylinder.
