Solar PV electricity panel systems in England and Scotland

Solar PV panels

Generate cheap, green electricity from sunlight from Carlisle, Norwich and Lockerbies Eco Solutions.

Solar power electricity systems, also known as solar photovoltaics (PV) capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells don't need direct sunlight to work - they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting.

We offer a 5 year warranty on the inverter and 10 years on the panels. The panels have a life expectancy in excess of 25 years and have a guaranteed output of 80% of their original output after 20 years.

Choosing a site, planning permission, and installation

As well as the guidelines below, you can try our Home Energy Generation Selector tool to see if your home is suitable for solar PV, and if it's not, find other possibilities.

Orientation and tilt

Your roof should ideally face due south at a pitched angle of between 30° and 50° from the horizontal to give the best overall annual performance. Installations facing anywhere to the south of due east and due west are feasible, although output and income will be reduced. Installation is not recommended on roofs facing north.

This table shows the percentage of the ideal annual output you will get for a system with a different orientation and tilt:

- Export Figures based on 50% of the total output being exported to the national Grid.
- Savings are based on 50% of the total output being used in the home.
- Source: SAP2009 v9.90, the Standard Assessment Procedure used by government, designed by the Building Research Establishment. SAP solar irradiance values are based on measurements taken in Northern England (e.g. Sheffield). If you live south of this you could expect higher returns.
- Prices of electricity used in this example are 13p/kWh.
- Under the rules no export meter is required, so customers are deemed to use and export 50% respectively of electricity they generate in our examples. However, the system will be read by an electricity company at some stage to make corrections.
- RPI is set at 2.5% and raise both tariff rates year on year only.
- The electricity price rises are set at 5% per year for 25 years. This is why profits are higher than simply multiplying 25 years by the total income per year. CO2 equivalent figures are over 25 years based on Energy Conversion Factors from DEFRA 2009.
- These figures are for guidelines only and should not be relied upon.
